EscapingNormal

Good day to you

Start Rant

I just wanted to take the time to get a few things off my chest. Especially since I am unable to do so on other social media sites. 1 word: opinions. EVERYONE has one. I apologize if you or anyone else does not share the same opinion or views as i do. But that does not mean attacking me about what I stand by. I also wanted to take the take to EXPLAIN what my post on twitter meant. The tweet said, verbatim, “remember when the norm was to not get pregnant and go to college to land a good career?” Let me pick this apart and explain. Everyone understand what the word NORM means, correct? This would have to deal with spoken and unspoken laws in society that everyone follows by. Now going back 10 years, there were only a few teenage pregnancies that were talked about of heard about, if not any. The norm back then was to do well in high school, on the SAT’s and then go to a college to experience the party life and also buckle down and get serious about life. I understand times have changed, yes I am aware of that. But never, EVER, once did I mention anyone’s names or life situations. I made a statement. Which almost everyone on this earth does every. single. day. I am not apologizing for my statement, because that’s how I view the topic. At an extremely early age, I was told, by my father, that he would be extremely disappointed and humiliated if I ever came home and told my parents I was pregnant. So I never did. I never said that babies weren’t a blessing, they most certainly are. I’m not ready to have that blessing in my life yet. There will be a time, but not right now. Also, I want to quickly point out the low blow that was thrown at me. Yes, I go to the University of Rhode Island. Absolutely it is a HUGE party school. NO. I do not waste my weekends and weeknights drinking cheap vodka and being blackout drunk. I have a job, and am currently working towards a double major in psychology and communicative disorders. I want to attend graduate school to attain my masters in speech pathology and ultimately earn my doctorate after a few years practicing in the hospitals. I work hard for what I want, and the words undermining me only make me work ten times harder. So don’t you EVER, tell me what is right and wrong again, because we all have different opinions of what IS right and wrong.
